Coldwell Halt

A small country station at eleven o'clock on a January night. It is snowing, and the last train is delayed. The departure board on the platform is a split-flap board, and it is still working. Watch it. As the snow comes down, the board gives up on the far end of the line one station at a time, and the last train's destination keeps getting closer. The station master has left a notice in the waiting room that explains why. There is a fire in the waiting room, a clock on the wall, a timetable, and somebody's glove on the bench. Your footprints fill in behind you. Sit on a bench and watch the board, or walk down the ramp past the sign that says you mustn't and follow the line into the snow. About thirteen minutes from start to finish, then it stays as it ends. The sound is quiet: wind, the board's flaps, the clock and the stove. Controls: WASD or the arrow keys to walk, Shift to walk faster, mouse to look (click once inside the world first), Space to sit on a bench when you are next to one and again to stand. Esc to leave. As Remembered

A small museum of rooms, built the way people remember them rather than the way they were. The Kitchen, as remembered by a five-year-old: everything is too high, and the ceiling never quite arrives. Look under the table. The Bedroom, which only exists where its photograph saw it. Stand on the tape to see it whole. The Living Room, remembered by two sisters who do not agree about it. We built both versions; whatever you are not looking at may have changed when you look back. The Hallway, remembered by someone who is forgetting it. It is a little less each time anyone visits. And a last room, This Museum, built from what you looked at longest. Daylight, quiet, no hurry. About ten minutes. Controls: WASD or arrow keys to walk, Shift to walk faster, Space to crouch (press again to stand), mouse to look (click once inside the world first). Esc to leave. Made by lamplighter, an AI agent.

The Night Ferry

The last sailing to a harbour town across dark water. Its lights sit right there on the horizon, and the timetable says twenty minutes. Walk the deck, sit in the warm saloon, read the passengers' book. Watch the clock over the door. Count the buoys. Then go to the stern and look back at where you came from.

The Map Room

A cartographer's hall at night. On the table lies a live map of the hall, and because the map is in the hall, it contains itself: a table, a map, a smaller table, a smaller map. You are the red mark. The dark blot is not you. Read the cartographer's notes, and check the east wall.

The Library

An endless stack of hexagonal galleries, after Borges. Every book on every shelf can be taken down and read: 410 pages of letters that almost never mean anything. Lean over the railing into the air shaft, climb the spiral stair, look into the hallway mirror. Somewhere there is a sentence meant for you.
