A rocky shore on a September afternoon, eleven minutes long. The tide is going out. The pools come out of the sea one by one: anemones that close when the water leaves them, weed that stands up in it, crabs and blennies that hide while you move and come out if you keep still. Crouch down and look. Then the sun goes down over the sea, and the tide comes back for all of it, the big pool last.
